The design of the bedroom is one of the most important choices to be made when we are decorating our home. Creating the right mood really depends on whether you are an early riser who loves to wake in a light and bright space, or if you prefer relaxing in the evening in a room that is filled with darker tones. Most importantly, the bedroom should be a place that we associate with calm and comfort, and the layout of the room, the colour palette, textures and lighting all influence our wellbeing.
The bedroom is a space that is all about you; a private place where you can really express your personality.
If you decide on a neutral or pale colour for the bedroom, envelop the whole room in similar tones to make the whole space feel lighter and create a calming effect. This also works well with darker colours, especially if your bedroom is already a dark room, as a single colour will make the room look bigger rather than drawing the eye to the perimeters of the space.
The headboard is an ideal place to use a contrasting colour to create a statement, or a beautiful textured fabric to juxtapose with neutral walls. A bespoke headboard provides the perfect canvas and also gives you far more versatile choices in terms of fabric, colour and size.

If your bed is facing the window, or you have large windows in your bedroom, then your choice of covering is important for an undisturbed night’s sleep.
Blackout blinds and curtains are a perfect solution for keeping out the light for uninterrupted weekend lie-ins. Beautiful swathes of textured curtain fabric add a sumptuous quality to the bedroom and can also make your windows look taller by adding a deep pelmet, and extending the space outwards to cover some of the adjacent wall.
When deciding on bedding, natural fabrics are the best choice, either in linen or cotton with a high thread count for added comfort. Linen is certainly on trend this summer, and looks beautiful when mixed and matched with complementary shades. The slightly crumped look of linen gives a relaxed feel to the bedroom, and better still there is no need to iron.
