In 2022, interior design trends are closely connected to the environment and the need for sustainability in terms of the material being used and bringing the outdoors in. There is also a continued need for our homes to be a hybrid of workspace, sanctuary and living space. Retro and neutral colours will also be a huge trend in 2022, giving our homes a sense of nostalgia for past designs.
Sustainability and Natural Materials
The responsible use of materials is a leading trend for 2022. With climate change being at the forefront of the news, the need to be sustainable has now fed into the interior industry. In 2022, we will see a push for fabrics and furniture produced in a more sustainable, slow way, with a move from mass production. Items that are produced to last a lifetime is a core focus for companies moving towards responsive design.
Home Working and Living Spaces
Now that many people have established a home working lifestyle, the need for an established workspace is even more important. Buying furniture that has a dual purpose that can adapt to our needs through the day will keep our living spaces more open, functional and will enhance your home.
Design Inspired by Nature
Green and natural tones will be the colour trends of 2022. We will see walls painted in soft greens with a grey undertone to create a sense of calm and tranquillity in the home. Terracotta and earthy brown tones will create a sense of warmth and can be beautifully layered from reddish-browns to tan hues.
Blue for Bedrooms
Earlier this year Dulux announced ‘Bright Skies’ as its Colour of The Year 2022. This light, fresh blue promotes restfulness and is a perfect choice for bedrooms. This colour is said to have a positive effect on mood and also translates well to accessories such as adding a blue textured quilt or bedside lamp shades.
Retro Design
Next year, the 70s and 80s interior design will be making a comeback. Driven by popular tv shows like Halston and Glow, nostalgic statement pieces, such as velvet armchairs with rounded edges and mushroom lamps will be making a resurgence. You will also see boucle, metallics, coloured glass, luxe greens and warm orange tones.
